Reykjavik-based indie studio Bunkhouse Games has announced their debut title Flock Off!, a first-person zombie-sheep action game set to launch in Q4 2025. This deliberately absurd adventure drops players into an alternate 1990s Scottish Highlands where a sheep cloning experiment has gone catastrophically wrong, unleashing a woolly apocalypse upon an unsuspecting remote village.
When Science Goes Baaaaad
Flock Off! presents players with one of gaming’s more unusual apocalyptic scenarios: zombie sheep overrunning the Scottish countryside. Four unlikely survivors find themselves trapped in this pastoral nightmare, armed with nothing but their wits and whatever they can grab from their surroundings to fend off the undead flock.
The game’s premise might sound ridiculous, but that appears to be entirely the point. Bunkhouse Games seems committed to embracing the inherent absurdity of battling reanimated livestock, promising “hilarious and surprising moments” alongside the high-energy combat and occasional jump scares.
Everything’s a Weapon
Perhaps the most appealing aspect of Flock Off! is its environmental interaction system. Players can weaponise virtually anything they encounter, from traffic cones and street signs to lawn mowers, baguettes, and even leeks. The developers have taken the concept further by allowing players to literally throw their friends – either to safety or directly into danger.
This “everything’s a weapon” philosophy suggests a level of creative freedom that could lead to genuinely emergent gameplay moments. The combination of unconventional weapons and cooperative chaos has the potential to create those memorable gaming stories that players share long after they’ve finished playing.
Cooperative Carnage
Designed primarily for group play, Flock Off! supports up to four-player cooperative action. The game features four distinct playable characters, each bringing their own approach to dealing with the sheep-based crisis. Equippable abilities promise to add strategic depth to the combat, potentially changing how encounters unfold based on player choices and team composition.
While optimised for multiplayer mayhem, solo players aren’t forgotten. The developers emphasise that the game offers “wide variation in the gameplay experience,” suggesting that different group sizes will create meaningfully different play experiences rather than simply scaling the same content.
Replayability and Game Modes
Flock Off! will launch with three game modes, including a cooperative campaign mode, though additional modes remain under wraps for now. The emphasis on replayability suggests that each playthrough might offer different experiences, potentially through randomised elements or branching scenarios within the Scottish Highland setting.
The developers clearly understand their target audience – players seeking chaotic, laugh-out-loud cooperative experiences that prioritise fun over serious storytelling. With its unique premise, environmental weaponisation, and focus on memorable multiplayer moments, Flock Off! could well become the party game that defines autumn 2025.
