No Umbrellas Allowed: A Dystopian Second-Hand Shop Simulator

Indie developer Hoochoo Game Studios and publisher Digerati have launched No Umbrellas Allowed, a unique second-hand shop simulator, now available for download on Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Previously released on PC and Nintendo Switch, No Umbrellas Allowed immerses players in a futuristic, sci-fi dystopia where greed is criminalized, and emotions are suppressed through a drug called ‘Fixer,’ administered via rainfall. Players step into the role of the manager at Darcy’s, a renowned second-hand shop, navigating a world where the simple act of buying and selling can have significant implications.

About the Game

In No Umbrellas Allowed, players take on the responsibility of managing Darcy’s in Ajik City. With the assistance of a robotic helper named HUE, they must appraise, buy, and sell a variety of items, all while avoiding the scrutiny of the Association for Victims of Avarice Crimes (AVAC). The game’s quirky premise and engaging mechanics promise a fresh and intriguing experience for simulation game enthusiasts.

Key Features

  • Evaluate: Players must assess the true value of a wide range of items, from everyday objects to rare treasures. Tools and expertise help determine whether an item is worthless or priceless.
  • Haggle: Negotiation skills are crucial as players attempt to buy items at the lowest possible price while keeping customers satisfied and ensuring profitability for Darcy’s.
  • Profit: Items acquired can be sold at a profit, but players must be careful not to attract unwanted attention from AVAC by displaying overt greed.
  • Reputation: Building a positive reputation through fair appraisals, good deals, and customer satisfaction is essential to attract more business and succeed in the game.
  • Umbrellas: Umbrellas are banned in Ajik City due to their ability to protect against the Fixerain. Any umbrellas brought to the shop must be surrendered to AVAC, with non-compliance resulting in penalties.
