Dragon Bobby: The Story of a Life

I was recently sent an Xbox game by a solo developer called Dragon Bobby: The Story of a Life. Having been in the same situation myself, I am always happy to playtest and review these kind of games. Getting your game completed and out on console especially is hard.

Due to time constraints and other deadlines, I was only able to give this game about three hours of playtime and whilst this isn’t enough to give it a full review, I wanted to give you my first impressions, and give you the positives of the game and highlight some areas of improvements.

The game is a third-person adventure game about a baby dragon. Born at the start of the game, you roam the landscape collecting shiny things and solving puzzles. The levels are overly spacious and requires a lot of running, swimming and flying to navigate them, however, you only get to swim and fly in later levels.

Throughout the game, there are photos that give snippets to the developer’s life from their first memory, through going to school and even getting married. It’s an unusual juxtaposition between fantasy and biography. One moment you will be roaming an empty set if ruins and then get a little story about the first day at school.

Hats off to Beni games for completing and shipping a game. That is further than most indie devs get and getting it on console as well is very impressive.

Whilst the game wasn’t my cup of tea, it worked. There were working menus, collectables, and a variety of different level types. I have included various images of the games and the trailer to give it some much needed publicity. It it looks like your type of game, you can pick it up here.
