Formula Legends: Arcade-Style F1

Italian developer 3DClouds has announced Formula Legends, a new racing title that aims to capture the essence of open-wheel motorsport with an accessible arcade approach. Set to launch later this year across Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms, the game promises to blend pick-up-and-play accessibility with surprising strategic depth.

Balancing Arcade Fun with Racing Simulation

Formula Legends takes an “over-the-spoiler” perspective on racing, focusing on delivering an experience that’s easy to learn but challenging to master. While maintaining arcade sensibilities, the game incorporates elements familiar to motorsport enthusiasts, including tyre wear, fuel consumption, dynamic racing lines, damage simulation, and changeable weather conditions.

According to Francesco Bruschi, CEO of 3DClouds, the development philosophy has been straightforward: “Race fast and have fun is a mantra that has driven this game’s development from day 1.” The studio’s proximity to the legendary Monza circuit in Italy has perhaps influenced their passion for the project, with Bruschi describing Formula Legends as “a true labour of love” from a team of dedicated motorsport fans.

A Journey Through Racing History

One of the game’s most appealing aspects appears to be its celebration of open-wheel racing heritage. Players will have access to 16 unique car models, each with seven different liveries inspired by iconic racing teams throughout history, totalling 112 vehicles to drive.

The racing environments follow this historical approach, with 14 circuits inspired by famous racing locations that evolve through different eras. This progression through time is further emphasized in the Story Mode, which invites players to relive defining moments in Formula racing history through era-based championships.

Formula Legends

Depth Beyond the Track

Formula Legends features over 200 fictional drivers inspired by real-life racing icons, each with custom helmets and unique skill perks. These driver specialties—from tyre management experts to wet-weather specialists—add an additional layer of strategy to race planning.

Beyond the story mode, players can create custom races and championships, compete for global leaderboard positions in Time Attack mode, and personalize their experience with modding support for liveries, helmets, and trackside sponsors.

3DClouds brings considerable racing game experience to the project, having previously developed titles like Xenon, Paw Patrol Karts, and Hot Wheels Monster Trucks. With Formula Legends, they’re aiming to help “kickstart an arcade racing renaissance” while paying homage to the sport they clearly love.

The game is now available to wishlist on Steam and Epic Games Store, with console store pages expected to launch shortly.
