Diving into Mystery

Echoes of Mora invites players into a flooded, abandoned village where they assist young protagonist Mora in searching for her missing brother. The underwater setting serves as both visual spectacle and narrative foundation, with players swimming through submerged environments whilst uncovering hidden clues about the sibling’s disappearance.

The game’s central mechanic revolves around “Echoes”, mysterious time portals that reveal moments from the village’s past. These temporal glimpses allow players to experience the settlement before its submersion, potentially offering opportunities to alter the course of events and prevent the catastrophic flood that destroyed the community.

Dual Platform Approach

One of the most intriguing aspects of Echoes of Mora is its seamless transition between VR and traditional PC gaming modes. In VR, players experience immersive swimming controls using motion tracking, creating what should be a uniquely tactile underwater exploration experience. The ability to switch between formats ensures accessibility whilst maximising the immersive potential of virtual reality technology.

The game maintains full compatibility with all PC-based VR headsets, suggesting a broad approach to VR accessibility rather than platform exclusivity.

Time Travel Puzzles

The narrative structure combines environmental exploration with puzzle-solving elements, as players piece together clues about both the brother’s whereabouts and the village’s tragic history. The time travel mechanic through Echoes appears to offer more than simple exposition, potentially allowing players to influence past events and alter the village’s ultimate fate.

This temporal manipulation adds layers of complexity to what might otherwise be straightforward underwater exploration, suggesting that player choices could have meaningful consequences on both the narrative outcome and the game world itself.

Creative Vision from Berlin

Co-Founder and Lead Artist Meike Strippel describes the project as “a true passion project” that brings together the team’s diverse creative perspectives. “We want to create a world that is not only visually stunning, but also emotionally engaging and fascinating,” she explains.

The emphasis on emotional engagement alongside visual spectacle suggests Echoes of Mora aims to deliver substantive storytelling within its atmospheric underwater setting. The sibling relationship at the story’s heart provides a personal anchor for the larger mystery surrounding the village’s destruction.
