Indie developer Strangely Named has launched their latest arcade shooter OBLITACRATER across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, bringing a brutal twist to the twin-stick shooter genre. The game challenges players to build a single, ever-growing score across multiple runs, but there’s a catch that sets it apart from other shooters: death resets your entire progress back to zero.

Drawing inspiration from arcade classics like Space Invaders, OBLITACRATER combines pick-up-and-play accessibility with modern roguelike mechanics. Players battle through endless waves of alien enemies on a stylised spherical planet, collecting upgrades and building their score. The core tension comes from deciding when to escape safely versus risking everything for higher rewards.

The upgrade system offers 50 unique enhancements ranging from stat boosts and movement speed increases to secondary weapons like rockets and mines. For thrill-seekers, random upgrades provide the biggest gamble, potentially delivering powerful abilities or devastating downgrades. The game supports hundreds of on-screen enemies and features 10 different alien creature types to obliterate.

Competitive players can test their skills across ranked, friends, and timed leaderboards, whilst the brutally difficult Dead Run mode strips away safety nets by making any enemy hit lethal. Developer Sen expressed excitement about seeing players across all platforms compete for leaderboard supremacy.

OBLITACRATER is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. More information can be found on the game’s Steam page.
