What’Sub Early Access: Four-Player Submarine Co-op Chaos Launches May 2026

Independent Danish developer Khaos Games has announced that their chaotic underwater co-op game What’Sub will launch in Steam Early Access on 14th May 2026, perfectly timed for Steam Ocean Fest. The game promises intense four-player submarine action where teamwork isn’t just helpful, it’s essential for survival.

What’Sub drops up to four players into a deteriorating submarine with a simple but nerve-wracking objective: navigate hostile underwater depths, collect valuable cargo, and extract alive. Each dive session lasts roughly ten minutes before a “shark storm” closes in, creating natural pressure that forces crews to make split-second decisions about risk versus reward.

The game’s core mechanic revolves around waypoints where crews must decide whether to surface with their current haul or descend deeper for greater rewards. It’s a high-stakes gamble, as submarine destruction means losing everything collected during that dive. However, successful runs provide gold for submarine upgrades, unlocking access to more challenging and lucrative biomes.

Developed by a six-person team following a game jam in Viborg last December, What’Sub emphasises communication and coordination. “The only way to progress is by getting closer to your fellow crew members by communicating,” explains Game Director Rasmus Kromand. Dynamic onboard systems ensure that things will break mid-dive, requiring constant crew attention to keep the submarine operational.

What’Sub will be available on Steam Early Access from 14th May 2026. Players can add the game to their wishlist on Steam to stay updated on development progress.
