Unyverse: Afrofuturist Action RPG

Developer Afrime Studios has unveiled Unyverse, an ambitious third-person action RPG that promises to bring fresh perspective to the genre with its Afrofuturist setting and fighting game-inspired combat. The upcoming title will be showcased at Mundo Gamer Showcase 2026 on 20th June, giving players their first proper look at this distinctive new project.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, Unyverse transports players to the continent of Lesser Intabas as a D’Zola warrior exploring a semi-open world filled with cities, villages, research laboratories, and conflict zones. The game’s combat system sets it apart from traditional action RPGs by incorporating fighting game mechanics including combos, stance switching, and precision-based timing, creating more technical encounters that prioritise skill and strategy alongside character progression.

The single-player campaign offers an estimated 25 to 30 hours of gameplay across a world featuring three major cities, nine villages, and various explorable regions. Players can choose from eight distinct combat styles, each with unique advantages and limitations, whilst navigating faction relationships and making narrative choices that directly impact their journey through the campaign.

Afrime Studios has placed particular emphasis on authentic representation, developing a character creation system specifically designed to offer detailed options for Black and Afro-descendant players, including facial features, hair textures, and cultural styles. The game’s art direction combines African-inspired architecture, advanced technology, and traditional clothing reimagined through a sci-fi lens, supported by original music that reinforces the cultural identity.

Unyverse is currently planned for release in 2027 exclusively on PC. Players interested in learning more about the game can catch its appearance at the Mundo Gamer Showcase 2026 streaming event this June.
