Crime Boss: Rockay City Update 21 Is a Free 2.0 Overhaul

Crime Boss: Rockay City is marking two years on Steam in style. Developer INGAME Studios and publisher 505 Games have released Update 21, the game’s biggest free update to date, bringing what they’re calling Version 2.0 of the co-op FPS heist title. The update arrives alongside the news that the game has now surpassed one million units sold, a milestone that appears to have given the team reason to celebrate, and plenty of motivation to keep going.

The headline addition in Update 21 is a brand-new Story Mode, which offers a fully structured single-player campaign following criminal mastermind Travis Baker and his rise to power. Unlike the original campaign, this mode strips away the roguelite elements, meaning no randomisation and no permadeath. Players can work through the narrative at their own pace, enjoying both returning cinematic cutscenes and newly created ones. Notably, the Story Mode also weaves in storylines from the Gold Cup and Cagnali’s Order DLCs, bringing them together into one cohesive experience for the first time.

Two new missions have also been added to the game. “Hell’s Kitchen” is described as a high-stakes heist, while “Close Encounter” takes things in a rather different direction with an extraterrestrial theme as part of the Rockay Rumble mission type. These additions are aimed at both returning players looking for fresh content and newcomers getting to grips with Rockay City for the first time.

Perhaps the most significant long-term addition, however, is full modding support for PC players. The complete modding toolkit is now available, allowing the community to create custom characters, new weapons, original missions, and entirely new game modes. INGAME Studios has said it plans to regularly showcase community-created content on its YouTube channel, and is exploring ways to bring the best mods to console players through curated DLC releases. It is a move that suggests the studio sees the modding community as a genuine part of the game’s future.
